A Story On Arrogance: Part 1
“What, are you stupid?” the boy jeered.
Donna shrunk down in her seat. “No,” she squeaked.
The boy laughed. “Look at this fat ass,” he said to the boy next to him. “Look how dopey she looks. And she thinks she’s smart!”
The second boy giggled.
Donna shrunk down further. A tear streamed down her face.
“Leave her alone, Jake,” a tiny girl at the front of the room said.
“Why should I?” Jake demanded.
“Because if you don’t, I’ll tell the whole school that you got beat up by a girl,” the tiny girl replied.
The second boy giggled again.
“Shut up!” Jake cried. “You just got lucky!”
“Sure she did,” the second boy said through more giggles.
“Shut up, Matt,” Jack cried. “Whose side are you on?”
The door opened before Matt could reply. A tall older woman entered the room.
“Sorry about that, class,” she said. “Donna?”
“Here,” Donna said as she raised her hand.
“Ah,” the woman said. “Hello. I’m Ms. Ivy, I’ll be your teacher.”
“Oh,” Donna said shyly. “Hi.”
Ms. Ivy smiled at Donna. “Your transcript got a little lost this morning,” she said. “But all is good now. Your record is quite impressive.”
Donna blushed deeply. “Thank you,” she whispered.
Ms. Ivy smiled again. “Now class,” she said, addressing the whole room. “I hope you’ll all make Donna feel welcome.”
Jake giggled behind Donna as Ms. Ivy began the day’s lessons.
